6 Ways to Celebrate Easter Indoors With Family

By Ruby Cemental

Due to rising health concerns, everyone should be preparing to celebrate the Easter holiday at home. This is especially true for older adults who are at higher risk should they become ill. Fortunately, there are plenty of great ways to celebrate Easter without ever leaving the house.

Whether you're looking for traditional fun, fun twists on old traditions, or new ideas for indoor Easter activities, you're sure to find some wonderful ways to fill your day with fun. We recommend trying a few of these suggestions to get started.

Cook a Traditional Meal

Enjoying a traditional Easter meal will help keep your normal routine alive. That said, there are a couple of things you may want to keep in mind:

  • Because of the risk of illness, it probably isn't a good idea to invite a lot of people to join your celebration this year. If you're accustomed to sharing a potluck-style meal, this means you'll be doing a lot more cooking than you usually would this holiday. To make things easier on yourself, consider cutting back on the number of sides you serve. You might also want to prep what you can a few days in advance, and look for quicker/easier cooking methods using appliances such as pressure cookers.
  • Currently, stores are not as well stocked as we might like. While this could change in the next week or so, it also may not. Therefore, grabbing what you need for your special meal right now is not a bad idea.

Bake Some Special Treats

No holiday meal is complete without some delicious treats. Instead of viewing this as an additional chore, consider using it as a fun celebratory activity to share with your loved ones.

Making some sugar cookies in fun Easter shapes and having everyone help decorate is one example of a fun baking activity. Likewise, your family might enjoy decorating cupcakes, or helping bake a carrot cake together.

Color Easter Eggs

You won't want to skip coloring Easter eggs. This is another fun activity that is good for all ages and really brings the family together. You can use a simple egg-dye kit and make each egg a single color, or you can get more creative using some of the ideas below:

  • Pull out the acrylic paints and create tiny masterpieces on your eggs.
  • Use a white crayon to make patterns on your eggs before putting them into dye. The dye won't take where the crayon markings are, creating a fun look.
  • Use stickers or washi tape to add special touches to eggs once the dye dries.
  • Put rubber bands around your eggs before dipping them in dye to create interesting patterns.
  • Use school glue and glitter to create sparkly patterns on dry eggs.

Craft Away

Looking to create even more works of art after your egg projects are finished? Why not do some fun craft projects? There are tons of super cute Easter-themed craft ideas out there, and most can be enjoyed by every member of the family, making this another wonderful way to spend family time.

Some of our favorite craft ideas include:

Tissue Paper Flowers — We love tissue paper flowers because they're easy to make, completely customizable, and they make for amazing decorations even after Easter is over. Simply cut circles, petals, or any other shape you like out of tissue paper, then thread the layers onto a pipe cleaner "stem".

Pom-Pom Chicks — These little chicks are totally adorable and make perfect table decorations. To make them, just cut tiny feet and beaks from orange felt and glue them onto yellow pom-poms. Add small googly eyes as a finishing touch and admire your super cute little creations.

Bunny Hats — Bunny hats are a classic that add to the fun of the holiday by giving everyone something silly to wear. To make your bunny hats, cut bunny ears out of white construction paper. Add some smaller "inner ear" layers on the front using pink construction paper or paint. Create a headband using more white paper that's been stapled into a ring shape to fit the wearer's head. Finish by stapling the ears onto the band and have fun wearing your Easter ears all day long!

Play Games

Games are always a fun way to spend time with the people you love. Sure, you absolutely could turn to the usual board games. However, if you're looking for something Easter themed, we highly recommend Easter Mad Libs for some seriously silly fun.

Other fun Easter games include:

Go on an Egg Hunt

Finally, there is the option of going on an egg hunt. Usually, this is an activity reserved for the kids, but even if there won't be children at your celebration this year, there's no reason the adults can't enjoy a good egg hunt too.

Since you'll be indoors, and since senior family members will be involved, you may want to keep your egg hunt on the tamer side. Fortunately, this is easy enough to do by making the game a stationary one for most players.

Begin by instructing all players to close their eyes. Have another person hide eggs in a single room, ensuring they are peeking out just enough to be spotted.

When the hiding is finished, all players should open their eyes and take turns calling out where they see an egg hiding. When an egg is found, the person who hid the eggs places it into the finder's basket. Continue taking turns until all eggs have been found.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are tons of awesome ways to have a fabulous time celebrating Easter indoors. With the tips above, spending Easter with your senior loved ones is sure to be a blast!
