Plant of the Month: Snake Plant
Helpful gardening tips provided by Shades of Green Nursery of San Antonio, TX
Simple beauty and ease of care are two reasons Sansevieria, also known as Snake Plant, has been chosen for Plant of the Month. This plant is virtually indestructible and will grow almost anywhere. Its leaves are stiff and sturdy without being sharp. When selecting your plant you have several colors from which to choose: dark green, green with yellow edging, pale silver green and light green. Some varieties even reward you with a flower spike in the warmer months of the year.
Indoor or out, the snake plant tolerates low to moderate light and its vertical stature makes it a great choice for narrow spaces. Outside it will need to be protected from direct afternoon sun and freezing temps. Wendy Meyer, co-manager of Shades of Green Nursery in San Antonio, TX advises, “depending on the size of the pot, let the soil dry down 1" to 2" between waterings. A monthly application of organic fertilizer will ensure your sansevieria will flourish.”
Even if you don't have a green thumb, you should be able to grow the beautiful sansevieria.
