Our next potted plant of the month adds a touch of class to any container garden. This classy plant is the Orchid. Contrary to popular belief, orchids are easy to grow and maintain. They cultivate very easily inside your home as long as you maintain the proper temperature and humidity levels. For this reason more and more people are eager to learn the key tips and techniques to successfully grow orchids in the home.
Some Orchid Species will bloom only once a year while a variety of types can bloom continuously. For optimunm growing success you should use bark or moss as a potting medium instead of the traditional potting soil. Heat and humidity are key drivers of the growth of orchids. As heat increases so does the plants need for water. But overwatering is the cause of many orchid growing failures. Yellow leaves are excellent indicators of too much sunlight. If lighting is favorable and yellow leaves still appear, try increasing the fertilizer levels slightly and watch for improvements. Also be sure to use a pot that provides good drainage. Good drainage provides the needed air circulation that is so important for long term plant growth.
