What Does Senior Care Cost in Raleigh?

By Caring Senior Service

The cost of living in Raleigh, NC, can be difficult for seniors to keep up with, especially when they find themselves on a fixed income. As seniors age, they often find themselves in need of additional help for daily activities that were once easy; for example, cleaning, cooking, and driving to complete errands. Having to move into a nursing home or another type of assisted living facility may cost more than they can afford.

Cost of Living in Raleigh

The cost of living in Raleigh is only 5% lower than the national average. That means that seniors may be able to save a few pennies toward long-term care.

Assisted Living Costs

Seniors often are confronted with the decision of staying in their own homes or moving to an assisted living facility. In Raleigh, the average stay for this type of facility starts at $1,100 per month, but for some facilities, $4,260 a month is typical. The average cost is right around $2,000 per month for seniors who may only need additional help during the day.

Nursing Home Costs

Nursing homes may also be a consideration for some seniors. However, the average cost for a nursing home stay begins at $175 a day and tops out at $195 a day in this area. The higher cost is for a private nursing home room; otherwise, you'll still be paying $175 per day to bunk with a roommate.

Home Care Costs

Many seniors do not need to move out of their homes just yet. They simply need additional care at home from a caregiver. The average cost for caregivers in Raleigh is $19 an hour. Since seniors often only need help a couple of hours a day, choosing a caregiver who will come to their home is the optimal choice.
