Top Activities for Seniors in the Wasatch Area

By Caring Senior Service

The hustle and bustle along the busy metropolitan Wasatch Front in Utah can be a fast-paced and even intimidating place to be for some people. Tucked up next to the Wasatch mountains and spanning over West Jordan, Salt Lake City, and South Jordan, this beautiful area is home to some of the best senior-oriented activities.

Senior Centers

The Wasatch Front is full of senior centers which are aimed at adults 50+, and Salt Lake City alone has over 20 of them. Join your peers and make new friends while partaking in fun activities such as games, meals, and even educational classes. Find the senior center nearest to you here.

Water Aerobics

Water aerobics is a great way for seniors to build strength and even recovery from surgery is partaking in water aerobics. Every Thursday from 11:00-12:00, the Northern Utah Rehab Hospital offers FREE water aerobics classes for seniors. An instructor guides you through low impact exercises to help you rebuild strength. Simply call ahead to RSVP, 801-475-5254.

Visit Temple Square

Temple Square is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but you don't have to be a member to explore these beautiful grounds. In the center of Salt Lake City, this area contains a lot of things to do for seniors! Explore the grounds of the temple itself, visit the tallest building in Salt Lake City for a bird's eye view, learn about early families who settled the area, or go shopping at nearby City Creek. Plus, Temple Square puts up beautiful lights around Christmas, making it a must-see destination.

Salt Lake Senior Adventurers

This group is for single adults 60+ who are looking to participate in more active activities. They meet up weekly or more for hiking, camping, movies, pickle ball, book club, concerts, bowling, and more! Simply fill out their questionnaire and attend your first public meet-up and enjoy the benefits of new friendships and staying active.

Yoga

Yoga is a great way for seniors to stay fit and flexible. Enjoy the relaxation of yoga at Thryve fitness club in West Jordan or enjoy a full health planning and meditation experience at Prana Yoga in South Jordan. You will be amazed at how refreshed and invigorated you start to feel as you become one with your body and mind.

As a senior, it is important to maintain levels of both physical and mental activity to ensure you achieve your maximum quality of life. Building quality friendships is just as important as making sure you have a healthy body. Contact us if you have any physical needs so we can help you to become more active with your peers and in your community.

If you or a loved one needs assistance to enjoy these activities, our caregivers can help. Learn more about our home care services
