What Does Senior Care Cost in Omaha?

By Caring Senior Service

Budgeting is especially important for seniors living on a fixed budget. It can be hard enough to make ends meet before adding additional costs of senior care. To help seniors living in Omaha, here's a closer look at what costs to expect when you're aging in place.

Cost of Living in Omaha

When comparing the cost of living in Omaha, NE, to other parts of the country, this city costs slightly less to live in than others. Omaha's cost of living is 8% lower than the national average. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean that seniors can expect cheap living conditions if they move into a nursing home or other senior living facility. In fact, most seniors living on a fixed income cannot afford the costs associated with daily care in a home.

Assisted Living Costs

Some seniors or their loved ones may consider assisted living facilities when the senior in question only needs a little extra care. However, the monthly costs in Omaha can be so much more than they can afford. Statistics show that the average monthly costs for assisted living facilities is $2,850. The low end of this statistic starts at $1,575 and ends at $4,350.

Nursing Home Costs

Nursing Home costs are even worse. For a semi-private room in a home, seniors can expect to pay $125 a day. That's an average of $3,750 per month to basically live with someone else in a room. The average for a private room is $155 a day, coming out to $4,650 a month. That's a whopping $55,800 a year for a room in a home.

Home Care Costs

But there is another choice for seniors who need additional care. A caregiver in Omaha charges an average of $19.65 per hour. Caregivers can help you or your senior take care of their daily needs, such as cleaning, driving, bill-paying, personal hygiene, and more. This alternative is a much cheaper and better decision for seniors who either do not wish to leave their homes or simply cannot afford to.
