By Michael Watson

The senior population is growing rapidly throughout the US and along with that comes the demand for more activities and fun things to get out and do. More and more cities are offering fun events for seniors to join so that they are able to socialize and enjoy fellowship and community with others who share their interests, no matter what those interests are.

The following are 3 of the many great activities in Jackson, MS, that are organized for seniors who hold a variety of different interests.

Participate in a Variety of Activities at the Jackson Senior Center

Jackson's Community Center offers a variety of activities for all seniors ages 60+ to participate in. No matter what your interests are, you can find something here that meets your personal needs. There are a variety of activities offered from exercise clubs to health/nutrition classes to classes to help teach you about computers.

If you are interested in games, they play bingo and bridge on a regular basis as well. Please note, however, that all activities are independent, meaning the senior center cannot provide extra assistance for participants.

Get in Some Exercise with the City of Pearl

The City of Pearl Senior Center is in a suburb of the nearby Jackson area. They offer activities including general fitness classes, strength-training classes, walking classes/clubs, and chair-based aerobics. Other, more innovative forms of movement are also offered, such as classes in line dancing, round dancing, and square dancing to name a few. No matter what your ability, there is a way for everyone to get moving and stay fit at the local senior center!
