Top Activities for Seniors in Columbus, NE

By Caring Senior Service

Columbus, Nebraska, is a smaller town on the Great Plains. But that doesn't mean that this city is boring! In addition to a full-service senior center, there are still loves of things to do for seniors and their families. Here are a few of our favorite activities in Columbus.

Andrew Jackson Higgins Memorial

Andrew Jackson Higgins was the creator of Higgins Industries, a company that manufactured boats during World War II. His boats were the most commonly used assault boats during the war. Columbus was his home, and there is a beautiful memorial site to commemorate and honor the workers of Higgins Industries in addition to the soldiers and sailors who manned the boats. Seniors and their family members will love visiting this memorial and seeing the full-size replica of the Higgins Boat.

Bob Lake Trail

For seniors who like to get outdoors, the Bob Lake Trail is a great place to go for a walk. The easy trail is just 1.3 miles long, making it a great option for seniors. The trail is also 9-feet wide and paved with crushed limestone, so it's easy to walk on. Seniors can get a breath of fresh air and a little bit of exercise. And the best part — parking is FREE! There are free parking lots available for all patrons.

Pawnee Plunge

Looking for something that offers a little more adrenaline? The Pawnee Plunge Water Park is a family-friendly park that everyone can enjoy. It spans over 7 acres and features a splash pool, lazy river, tube slides, and other attractions. Seniors can also sit back and relax in one of the many chairs around the park. From mild to wild, seniors can enjoy the park at their own pace.

If you or your loved one need help enjoying any of these activities in Columbus, our team would be happy to help. Feel free to reach out to our office and discuss how our caregivers can provide assistance.
