An Interview with a Great Caregiver: Rosalba Valles

By Michelle Cemental

Continuing to reflect on 25 years of serving seniors and their families, Caring Senior Service shines the spotlight on Rosalba Valles, a caregiver in on our Caring Senior Service of El Paso office. In this interview, Rosalba discusses how she was inspired to become a caregiver for the seniors in her area.

Can you tell a little bit about yourself?
I am 61. I’ve lived in El Paso, Texas since 1991.

Rosalba VallesHow long have you been a caregiver?
I have 10 years of experience.

How long have you been with Caring Senior Service?
6 years and 2 months.

"I feel like being a caregiver
is part of my personality and
I like to care for the people.

What inspired you to become a caregiver?
I feel like being a caregiver is part of my personality and I like to care for the people. I enjoy seeing them as part of my family.

Are there any significant challenges you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
I have had various challenges in my life — like the death of my parents and of my young brother as well as my divorce.

What has been your favorite story/experience since working with Caring Senior Service?
A nice experience is that I have clients who see me as part of their family. All of my clients are very important to me because, like I said, I see them as part of my family too.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a caregiver?
I like to go to my job very presentable so that I am always clean in my uniform for my clients. My clients are nice and always feel satisfied with me.

What is the most challenging thing about being a caregiver?
I haven't had any unpleasant situations.

What advice would you offer to someone looking to become a caregiver?
My advice is to treat the patients with respect so that they can happily live the ends of their lives.

I speak little English and I have some clients who don’t speak any Spanish but they understand me perfectly. I have had six years with this company, Caring Senior, and I am very, very happy because all of my six years I have always been treated with so much care and respect.

Everyone here at Caring Senior Service National Headquarters would like to thank Rosalba and officially recognize her for the service she provides to Caring Senior Service of El Paso and the seniors in her community. Rosalba we hope you enjoy the Acer Chromebook Laptop we sent you, its our way of saying thank you as we celebrate 25 years of helping seniors!
