Corporate History
In 1991, Jeff Salter saw a need for a company to assist the elderly with certain needs in their homes - non-medical services such as bathing, dressing, errand running, housekeeping and meal preparation. Jeff worked in home health care, where nurses came in to the home and administered medication or other medical care, then went on to see another patient.
Jeff founded the company in Odessa, Texas to meet that need.
With Caring Senior Service, people could have a resource to call on 24 hours a day, with assistance just a phone call away. Clients had the assurance that caregivers were screened thoroughly, and that they had a company that would ensure the quality of their care. The other great benefit was the cost, Caring allowed substantial flexibility over the hours when the caregivers were present, allowing the client to maintain their independence at a fraction of the cost of assisted living facilities - customer control over hours was a novelty at the time.
The guiding principle Jeff founded the company with is still the central fabric of Caring Senior Service: The client has control - we facilitate the clients requests. As obvious as this statement may seem, it is rarely the philosophy of home care companies, simply because they are rewarded by Medicare for loading the client with services. Many of our clients find our attitude towards their care remarkably refreshing.
In 1993, Jeff expanded the business to McAllen, Texas.
With our success has come growth. In 1994, we expanded our services to Corpus Christi to serve the Costal Bend area. In 1996, we opened our office in San Antonio, our first office in a city with a population over one million - which then became our corporate headquarters. And in 1998 we opened our 5th office in Texas' state capital, Austin. 1998 was also the year we began our operations in Arizona, bringing the same quality care to the citizens of Phoenix and surrounding cities. We established a franchising program in 2001, which allowed for rapid expansion into new cities and allowed more seniors to receive the benefits of the Caring Senior Service philosophy.
2007 marked a period of major growth within the company, as Caring Senior Service opened five new offices in Texas, three in Illinois and one in Tennessee. Now, Caring Senior Service operates 39 offices all over the United States. In addition to our large presence in our home state of Texas, Caring Senior Service helps seniors in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
We have continued with and added to all the things that made the original idea a great success. We are still on call 24 hours a day, and always have back up help should it be needed, But now we have improved the services we are able to provide through additional training of our staff, such as in the specific needs of Alzheimer's patients; implementing new software, which allows us to anticipate situations before they arise; moving to a flat rate pricing structure, so our clients always know how much their services will cost; detailed care plans, which ensure the clients needs are met; a new office structure which ensures that the client receives a higher continuity of care. The list goes on. And on!
Though our company is growing, we are staying true to what has made us a success, putting the client first and providing quality caregivers.
